93 points “It’s svelte, polished and classy to a tee. It has the Penfolds phenolic stamp of seamlessness without being glossy or overdone. Lovely wine.” - Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate, July 2023

95 points “Elegant and pure with a fine framework, racy mineral-laden acid propulsion and a light textural phenolic pressure on the palate. It's an elegant, mineral-driven wine and a damn good one at that.” - Australian Wine Companion

This multi-regional Chardonnay truly reflects the winemakers’ mantra of going where the fruit grows best and where it best suits style. With each distinct region bringing nuance to the final blend, we see Tasmania giving a backbone of struct flint and steely minerality, Adelaide Hills imparting subtle white stone fruit and cured lemon, and Tumbarumba’s high altitude vines bestowing lime, lemon and wet stone minerality. These characteristics are complemented by barrel fermentation and maturation in new and seasoned oak, resulting in an exhilarating Chardonnay, living up the recently acquired moniker “Baby Yattarna”.

The pale straw and lime green hued Bin 311 2022 vintage brings elegance and fruitfulness to the fore and is an exciting example of the modern Penfolds Chardonnay style. The expressive palate presents honeydew melon, white peach, cashew and nougat with trademark minerality and acidity running alongside. Beautifully balanced with a vanilla and oak backbone, this sublime Chardonnay slowly unfurls in the glass to reveal more complexity over a long and lingering finish. Drink now or leave to mature and watch the flavours and characteristics come alive with time.

Penfolds is certainly Australia’s, and possibly one of the world’s, most iconic wine producers. Established in 1844, it boasts an enviable history that most wineries in the Old World would give their right arm for. Most famous for its flagship wine, Penfolds Grange, which is the very definition of Australian fine wine and the 1955 vintage was even described by Wine Spectator as one of the “Wines of the Century”. Penfolds owe much of their success to Max Schubert, their winemaker, who travelled to Europe after World War II and came back with all kinds of secrets. His innovative, often multi-regional blends have become part of the DNA of Penfolds and now the wines are the choice of connoisseurs and collectors all over the world.
