98 points “Should age for the long term. A beautiful pure-fruited and mineral textured Eden Valley Riesling. Despite the challenging bushfires of 2020 in the Adelaide hills (further south) the 2020 Bin 51 highlights an outstanding growing season for Riesling in this region. A brilliant wine.” – Andrew Caillard MW

18+ points “The piercingly fresh lime juice theme is invigorating and its ultra-clean outlook manages to fleetingly banish memories of the awful raging bushfires which devastated hundreds of vineyards in South Australia. This is a wine which cleanses the palate and the mind and it is a fine beacon of home that we can look forward to drinking some superb wines from this exceptionally challenging vintage.” – Matthew Jukes

Loved by Harvey Nichols and two of leading experts on Australian wine Bin 51 Eden Valley Riesling is dry and slatey with a light spritz and notes of lime leaf lime juice orange blossom lemon curd chamomile talcum powder crunchy green apple pear sorbet grapefruit and chalk. We can’t wait to pair it with sunshine ceviche and Thai salads. However if you have the space to cellar this for a while we’d highly recommend it. As James Halliday says: “Praise to the way these Rieslings develop over time. By law they shouldn’t be released until after five years’ bottle age.”

Penfolds is certainly Australia’s and possibly one of the world’s most iconic wine producers. Established in 1844 it boasts an enviable history that most wineries in the Old World would give their right arm for. Most famous for its flagship wine Penfolds Grange which is the very definition of Australian fine wine and the 1955 vintage was even described by Wine Spectator as one of the “Wines of the Century”. Penfolds owe much of their success to Max Schubert their winemaker who travelled to Europe after World War II and came back with all kinds of secrets. His innovative often multi-regional blends have become part of the DNA of Penfolds and now the wines are the choice of connoisseurs and collectors all over the world.
