Penfolds has launched a new range of wines in partnership with Human Made founder, NIGO, to celebrate the idea of “oneness”. One by Penfolds celebrates what makes us all different and unique, but also the things that bring us together. The collection comes from the three different regions where Penfolds wine is sourced around the world – USA, France and Australia – and these bottles each have their own distinctive animal motif on the label, so they are instantly recognisable. The personality of the wine is unmistakably Penfolds with each of them focusing on medium bodied, vibrant and aromatic characteristics.

One by Penfolds Pinot Noir offers a complex and expressive nose with notes of melon, watermelon and mint sitting alongside the sweet and intriguing tones of rhubarb crumble and pistachio nougat. A burst of herbal aromatics in the form of sage, rosemary and bay break free, before drifting away leaving gentle wafts of jasmine tea and sandalwood. The medium bodied palate brings forth blood orange, tangerine and preserved lemon with dark cherry sweetness, a hint of bitterness and smooth tannins. The wine finishes with a vibrant dance that perfectly encapsulates this delightful Pinot Noir. The fruitiness and full aromatics of the wine pair delectably with lightly spiced dishes and rich meats, so pour yourself a large glass and settle down to chicken liver parfait on crisp golden toast followed by spiced roasted duck with stir fried pak choi.

Penfolds is certainly Australia’s and possibly one of the world’s most iconic wine producers. Established in 1844, it boasts an enviable history that most wineries in the Old World would give their right arm for. Most famous for its flagship wine, Penfolds Grange, which is the very definition of Australian fine wine and the 1955 vintage was even described by Wine Spectator as one of the “Wines of the Century”. Penfolds owe much of their success to Max Schubert, their winemaker, who travelled to Europe after World War II and came back with all kinds of secrets. His innovative often multi-regional blends have become part of the DNA of Penfolds and now the wines are the choice of connoisseurs and collectors all over the world.
