The Philipponnat family has been based in the Champagne region since the 17th Century and is most famous for its iconic top release Clos des Goisses. Although not as well-known as some of Champagne’s other big names Clos des Goisses has established a loyal following amongst Champagne connoisseurs and is generally regarded by experts to be one of the greatest wines produced in the entire region. Hailing from a single vineyard site and composed of a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay the annual production of Clos des Goisses is tiny while demand is on the increase. Essentially a colourless brandy Marc de Champagne is produced by distilling the grape skins seeds and stalks which are left from the pressing process in the first stages of Champagne production.
