Following exceptional releases from Jamaica Fiji and Barbados Plantation make a new and unexpected port of call on their round the world voyage Peru. Only 21 barrels were made of this one-time-only rum and very few bottles have made their way to the UK making it a limited edition not to be missed…

Lovingly distilled in 2006 by the Cartavio Rum Distillery (using sugar cane from Chicama Valley near the Ecuadorian border a John Dore pot still and a column still) in Peru – one of the most exciting places to make rum on the planet. It was filled into Bourbon casks and aged in the hot tropical paradise that inspired that glorious box design for eleven years under the watchful eye of the Master Blender Jorge Luis Rodriguez Parajes. From there it was shipped to Javrezac in the Cognac region of France not far from the home of Cognac masters Maison Ferrand at Château de Bonbonnet. There it spent another three years in Ferrand’s casks gaining further complexity in the cooler European climate. Bottled as a 14 Year Old at 47.9% this vintage rum is as bright and vibrant as the Peruvian rock cockerel (known as the ‘tunki’ in Quecha and considered Peru’s national bird) on the label. This rich rum tastes like a tropical Christmas. The dried fruit mixed peel spices and toasted nuts of a Christmas cake mingle with sun-kissed citrus exotic fruit and tangy passionfruit. Dark chocolate vanilla wood and walnut oil create a firm backbone to a rum that would be an elegant addition to any collection.

In the late 1980s Alexandre Gabriel of the Cognac house Maison Ferrand set off on an adventure; he was scouring the Caribbean in search of the region’s finest rums. His passion gave birth to Plantation an artisanal range of rums from the great terroirs of the tropics. Combining French savoir-faire with Caribbean joie de vivre Plantation’s outturn is a treasure trove for rum lovers and spirits enthusiasts.
