Woden Craft Gin is the signature spirit from Psychopomp a super-exciting micro-distillery in Bristol. It’s made in small batches using juniper coriander seed angelica root cassia bark fennel seed and fresh grapefruit zest. Expect a London Dry-style gin with lots of peppery and piney juniper crisp grapefruit and a fennel seed note on the finish. We love the creamy feel and the comfortingly warming spices. It’s smoothness and depth of flavour really lends it to a Martini but it’s equally wonderful in a G&T.

The name ‘Psychopomp’ comes from ancient Greek and refers to a spirit that guides souls to the afterlife. We think this is probably because this Bristolian distillery takes your taste buds on a spiritual journey to heaven. W?den is the Old English name for the god Odin. In Norse mythology he is the overseer of Valhalla which is the enormous hall in Asgard where the Valkyries escort some of those who die in combat for a bit of post-death mead-fuelled knees up. So in short Odin is the chief psychopomp. Phew did that make sense? We’re going to need a stiff drink now.
Psychopomp is a tiny micro-distillery in Bristol. It evolved out of the experimentation between two friends Liam and Danny. They began building stills and tinkering with recipes in Liam’s basement before moving to 145 St Michael’s Hill. As you walk up this steep hill from town maybe stop for a pint in a pub that the forward-thinking locals changed the name of due to its links to the slave trader Edward Colston (it was rather amusingly called “Ye Olde Pubby McDrunkface” in the interim if we remember correctly) or pick up some flapjack from Parsons Bakery to fuel your ascent. Once at the top you’ll see an old shop with a charming sign reading “A. Jenkins Groceries Provisions” and that’s the home of Psychopomp. These lovely folk believe that delicious beverages shouldn’t come at a cost to the planet so they’re certified carbon neutral and look to lower their impact on the environment wherever possible.
