The Isle of Raasay distillery have released their award-winning signature single malt whisky at cask strength for maximum impact, flavour and power. With only 8,400 bottles released globally, of which only 1000 have been released into the UK market, we are lucky to have secured a few.

Crafted in the same way as the Isle of Raasay Single Malt, the combination of the two spirits, one peated and one unpeated, really packs a punch. The maturation takes place separately in first-fill rye whiskey casks, Bordeaux red wine barrels and fresh Chinquapin oak; the latter, aka Chinkapin or Quercus Muehlenbergii, is the coolest new wood on the whisky-making scene. It doesn’t grow very straight, so barrels are rare, but they’re said to deliver a touch more tannin while brightening the fruit and adding notes of toffee and almond. Married together these components create a balanced dram with immense complexity, eliciting old-school smoke, rich dark fruits, warming pepper, fiery ginger, salted caramel and a depth of character to render one speechless.

The Isle of Raasay can be found to the east of the Isle of Skye, and its modern distillery is impressing the experts. The award-winning author Dave Broom gushed, “This for me is really advanced whisky making, and it’s a completely new way of thinking about Single Malt in Scotland.” So, don’t miss out on the innovative outturn from this compelling producer. Each new bottling perfectly captures the rugged natured of its Hebridean home.
