Only 9,718 bottles were made of this limited-edition spirit, so it’s already becoming extremely hard to find. It’s a collaboration between the German metal band Rammstein and long-time Harvey Nichols’ favourite, 1423. They use a similar blend to the Rammstein Premium Rum, which is crafted using heavy pot still rums from Jamaica and Guyana and old-school column still rum from Trinidad. This is matured in ex-Bourbon barrels for up to 12 years before being finished in ex-Sauternes casks for nine months. Released in 2022, this one-off has the power of a tropical storm from the Caribbean combined with the silky sophistication of French winemaking. The heart of the spirit throbs with treacle, soft brown sugar, flaming Christmas pudding, smoke and toasted walnut, but that’s shot through with a refreshing arrow of Seville orange, kumquat and menthol. The result is dry, moreish and surprisingly silky. We recommend sipping this with Rammstein on full blast. Get your industrial metal rum on.
Rammstein, meaning ‘ramming stone’, were founded in East Berlin in 1994 and have become one of the biggest international bands the world has ever seen. They’re part of the fierce and dramatic Neue Deutsche Härte genre, making what The New York Times calls “a powerful strain of brutally intense rock”. Frequently courting controversy with their provocative lyrics, videos, pyrotechnics and political views, their rum was never going to be a shrinking violet.
