98 points “Like a stallion out of the gate this shows an initial explosion of power in the form of mouth-watering flavours and fine texture before quickly settling into an elegant gait. The racy acidity is seamlessly knit buoying the lacy mousse and flavours of cassis toasted brioche and tangerine with accents of candied ginger hazelnut and fleur de sel lingering on the long creamy finish.” – Wine Spectator

97 points “An expressive buttered brioche nose gun smoke reduction red fruit and toasted almond and pistachio notes. This very precise and elegant Champagne has a piercing acidity that underscores the long finish of lime zest quince and apple.” – International Wine & Spirit Competition 2021

96 points and Vintage Champagne Trophy winner “This wine is really refined with subtle toast and spice. Raspberries and cream fraiche and lovely smooth citrus fruit with green Mirabelle plum and orchard fruit. Fine acidity ripples through the palate and the sweetness is perfectly integrated.” – International Wine Challenge 2020

Rare Champagne truly lives up to its name having only been made in eleven vintages since 1976. The Chef de Cave is the Champagne legend Régis Camus a man who has been named Sparkling Winemaker of the Year eight times by the International Wine Challenge and was awarded a Life Achievement Award by the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championship in 2019.

To create this exquisite Champagne Régis Camus ignores the traditional rankings of Premier and Grand Cru instead choosing vineyards based on their character in that given vintage. The result is a complex distinguished and pure expression of the year that amazes critics and tasters all over the world. 2008 was an incredible vintage in Champagne. The experts at Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate haven’t rated a year as highly as this one since their records began in 1970 and Decanter described it as “something special” praising the “powerful fruit and scintillating acidity” and calling the wines “real keepers”. That makes the Rare Millésime 2008 a particularly intriguing proposition…

Rare Millésime 2008 comprises 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir and was kept on its lees for a mind-boggling eleven years before disgorgement. Lightly golden and crystal clear the nose bristles with energy and vivacity. Expect aromas of orchard blossom hyacinth Williams pear fresh coconut sugared almonds and tangerine. The Decanter World Wine Awards called it “a revelation” and it’s not hard to see why when you sip it. Caramelised nuts pastéis de nata smoked sea salt tropical fruit red berry sorbet crisp citrus toasted gingerbread cream and racy acidity all come together to create an otherworldly experience.

Rare Champagne is an homage to the halcyon days of the royal court at Versailles. In 1785 Florens-Louis Heidsieck presented his very first ‘prestige cuvée’ to Marie Antoinette in 1785 declaring that he wanted to make a “cuvée worthy of a queen”. A century later Russian Tsar Alexander III’s jeweller Pierre-Karl Fabergé crafted a glamorous bejewelled bottle for the great Champagne house. His creation inspired the “beautifully sculpted bottle” (Wine Spectator) that you see before you now.
