In collaboration with StreetSmart, Streets kitchen and City Harvest
While London’s hospitality industry was in hibernation community kitchens across the capital have been kept busy making meals from surplus food with many volunteer hands.
And like them, our team continued to deliver meals to StreetsKitchen with generous funding from Streetsmart (and Landaid) who trusted us to make the best use of this grant after our decade long relationship fundraising for them.
Since the start of cooking meals solely for Streets Kitchen in October 2020, our team produced over 6600 meals and the incredible volunteers of Streets Kitchen have distributed these in Haringey, Camden, Clapham, and Tooting.
We have now also added a food surplus partnership with City Harvest which should make the production of the meals not only more cost-efficient but will also help to redirect food surplus in meaningful ways.
By taking this cost-efficient approach we are proud to say that each £1 donated currently serves around 2 vulnerable people.
And if this wasn’t enough some of our employees also joined a Streets Kitchen site managed by the London Hotel Group as regular volunteers while being furloughed, helping to cook 120 to 130 meals daily for the rehoused residents in the hotel.
While most of them have now returned to work we hope that the skills they were able to share with other volunteers will continue to be felt in the months to come.
