Supporting StreetSmart this Christmas

Giving back this festive season

2020 was very much a mammoth test of endurance and positivity. Whenever we thought we were getting on top of things a new punch was thrown at all of us. But the team at OXO kept getting back in the ring with every round this year had to offer. And we certainly had a few more punches to throw when the fundraising for StreetSmart had to stop due to the restaurant closure in lockdown 2.0. For over 20 years OXO has been fundraising for StreetSmart and we weren’t about to let this stop us.

During lockdown 1.0, the OXO community kitchen was born, producing over 10 000 meals using over 40 tons of surplus food. We planned to resume cooking as soon as we had figured out the logistics of running the community kitchen alongside our usual operations. Many of the team still wanted to continue to help and find a way to make it part of our business. So, by linking this year’s StreetSmart campaign with meals cooked by our team to benefit StreetsKitchen, our chosen beneficiary seemed like a good strategy. With the pandemic still very much a part of daily life, we recognised how difficult this winter was going to be for the homeless and the charities that support them.

Before lockdown 2.0 was announced we had started meal production alongside our usual operations and had already supplied 750 meals to vulnerable people. Once the four-week forced break was announced OXOs community kitchen saw our volunteer chefs fired up to full speed again.

Knowing that our usual fundraising would have been impacted by this period of lost donations we wanted to strengthen our support towards StreetSmart, by offering a £1 discretionary donation on every bill and giving a £1 donation from every sale of bread and non-alcoholic cocktail Seeds of Change. By doing this we are hoping that these additional ways of engaging our guests with the campaign we can make up for some of the potential drops in fundraising.

To date, we have produced 2470 meals and raised £1293 with this year’s campaign. We will continue to update you on our progress over the coming weeks and would like to extend a warm thank you to all our customers who helped us support StreetSmart last year.
