The OXO Community kitchen returns

In collaboration with StreetSmart and Streets Kitchen

It has certainly been a year of challenges for many.

During the first lockdown period, we made sure our kitchens were put to use and furloughed staff given the opportunity to volunteer and help fight a growing issue with food insecurity. With an entirely volunteer run operation in place we launched our community kitchen with the motto “Distanced But Together” and cooked over 12,000 meals for a selection of key organisations, each doing incredible work to ensure surplus food is turned into meals and distributed to those in need. This time we are working with long standing partners, StreetSmart for the 22nd year and will be supporting one of the organisations instrumental in distributing meals in the first lockdown – Streets Kitchen (https://www.streetskitchen.org/).

With the restrictions in place , we knew this was going to be a challenging time for any organisation supporting the homeless, further fueling our desire to help. Launching from the start of November the OXO community kitchen created over 500 meals in the first week alongside normal operations. Then, with a mere four days of notice, lockdown number two was announced on the 31st October. Our business, like so many others, was forced to close again. A high number of our team, many of who had volunteered with the community kitchen previously, expressed a desire to step up and volunteer once again, enabling us to cook meals for the homeless throughout the next six weeks with Streets Kitchen.

We will continue you to update you on our progress over the coming weeks and would like to extend a warm thank you to all of our customers who helped us support Streetsmart last year.
