96 points, “A welcome relief from the blandness of many commercial Sauvignon Blancs, this is an ambitious, dynamically farmed white from the brilliant team at Reyneke. Sappy, reductive and nettle, with a flinty note that’s reminiscent of great Pouilly-Fumé and a long saline finish.” – Tim Atkin MW

The biodynamic Reserve White is a made from 100% whole-bunch-pressed Sauvignon Blanc. Fermented and aged on the lees in French oak barrel for 12 months, it’s a beguiling riot of grapefruit, quince, elderflower, flint, gooseberry, orange blossom, Granny Smith apple and chamomile. This is not your average Sauvignon Blanc; it’s a very innovative piece of winemaking.

The Reyneke farm began its life in 1863 with no chemicals or technology, just hard graft and nature’s bounty. Although it may have strayed from this path a little, now it’s going back to where it all began. Following biodynamic methods, they recycle or reuse everything they possibly can, including office paper, which is shredded and fed into their earthworm farm. They use no herbicides, pesticides or fungicides, choosing to deal with weeds by planting other plants that control them, and letting ducks eat the pesky bugs. And finally, they run a project called Cornerstone, where profits are fed back into their workers and their families. So far this given four of the families that work on the vineyard their own home and is funding one of their children through further education. So, this is very much a wine with principles.
