In 1958 Riedel launched the very first ‘wine-friendly’ glasses with the Sommeliers Series which were blown into a mould by glassblowers in Tyrol. They are still one of the most iconic glasses on the market today. The Superleggero Series uses the same technique and shape as the Sommeliers Series but it’s lead free (hence tougher) and features a slimmer aesthetic making them super light. These hand-formed glasses are simply brilliant bringing the wine drinker closer to the wine than ever before.
The design of the Superleggero Burgundy Grand Cru glass is perfect to support the fragility fresh compact fruit and subtle nuances of top Pinot Noir. It highlights sweetness levels the acidity and deemphasises the alcohol. The result is a drinking experience of exquisite balance. Although intended specifically for the finest Burgundy we also find it works beautifully with top Barolo Barbaresco Beaujolais Cru and American Pinot Noir.
In celebration of the company’s 265th anniversary Riedel has created some limited-edition value packs containing a pair of Superleggero Burgundy Grand Cru glasses. And they are great value because the second glass is effectively one-third the normal price.
