97 points Platinum Medal Best in Show “A pale silvery hue and a stream of fine bubbles followed by keen ultra-fresh aromas in which the graceful creamy notes of fine Chardonnay mingle with deeper fruits from the two Pinots: apple pear quince. Everything sketched out on the nose is delivered with great precision and focus on the palate in this refined and searching wine and its length and persistence on the finish is testament to the kind of slow acquisition of phenolic (or flavour) ripeness which Southern England’s climate now permits. That vivacity and assurance are re-defining the boundaries for northern high-latitude sparkling wine creation: taste it here.” – Decanter World Wine Awards 2020

The Classic Cuvée 2014 from Roebuck Estates is a new discovery for us. Only the second vintage and it already feels so confident and impressive. It’s a rich and sophisticated blend of 47% Chardonnay 38% Pinot Noir and 15% Pinot Meunier sourced from various vineyards across southern England. Fermented in a combination of stainless steel and French oak it was then matured for 36 months before release. Pop the cork to discover baked apple lemon curd vintage marmalade crunchy pear yeasty baguette whipped cream toasted nuts spice hints of truffle and so much more. Roebuck Estates is on a trajectory to become one of the big players in English Sparkling Wine as that Decanter review proves. But that was far from a one-off many other critics concur…

“A new one to me and by God it’s good. The nose is like marmalade with bitter Seville orange notes lots of ripe fruit on the palate too with a full nutty finish. Close your eyes and you could be drinking Pol Roger.” – Henry Jeffreys BBCGoodFood.com

“This newly released vintage is the finest wine to date from the brilliant Roebuck… Smooth ready to drink and with none of the high acid or unripe notes which we try to avoid in English fizz this is a sultry suave seamless beauty.” – Matthew Jukes Daily Mail

“A classic blend of Chardonnay Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier produced in the champagne method followed by lengthy oak-ageing it was a worthy winner of a gold medal at the recent Wine GB Awards. With zingy citrus and warm toasty brioche and a touch of cream it’s a very sophisticated and stylish fizz indeed.” – Jonathan Ray Spectator Life

Roebuck Estates can be found in the village of Tillington on the South Downs in West Sussex. English wine lovers might recognise that name from Nyetimber’s famous single-vineyard cuvée. This passionate and knowledgeable team in West Sussex have created a stunning wine to pair with rich seafood dishes or fish and chips. But as it’s also vegan friendly it also makes a fine choice for nut-based cheeses nutty quinoa salads with a citrussy dressing or creamy pasta sauces made with butter beans and nutritional yeast.
