On tasting Rosebank 30 Year Old Release 1, Whisky Advocate said, “Welcome back Rosebank, it’s been too long.” So, there will be much excitement about the slightly older second global release, Rosebank 31 Year Old Release 2.

Once considered one of the premier lowland single malt Scotch whiskies, Rosebank distillery was mothballed in 1993. Renowned for producing floral, delicate and elegant expressions, bottlings from Rosebank have subsequently acquired a highly collectable cult status, which has made any new releases immensely sought-after.

This rare whisky, salvaged before the distillery’s untimely closure, will be the last ‘old Rosebank’ release before the distillery is re-opened to the public, making it a once-in-a-lifetime bottling. Despite having spent more than three decades in casks, this Lowland whisky still buzzes with energy and bright flavours. The nose is an explosion of lime, lemongrass, sugared almonds, vanilla, coriander seeds and cloves. On the palate, fresh mint mingles with chamomile, garden herbs, leather, white currants, peach and banana bread. This is what the whisky world and the people of Falkirk have been waiting for.

Rosebank invited four leading whisky commentators to the launch of this incredible dram: Becky Paskin, Brad Japhe, Moa Nilsson and Thijs Klaverstijn. Upon sampling the 31 Year Old, Paskin said, “The first taste was mind blowing. It was a rush of exotic fruits, with a subtle hint of cask wood and spice. A juxtaposition of styles that makes Rosebank truly unique.” Brad Japhe added, “There’s an evolution that happens as it sits in front of you – toasted biscuits, brioche, cotton candy, and grapefruit zest all developed while the dram was in the glass.” And Klaverstijn noted, “You get depth, richness and lingering spice from the cask, then there’s a tropical grilled pineapple influence – it’s just perfect.” Speaking of the dram’s eye-catching colour, Moa Nilsson said, “Golden amber mixing with a light straw – the whisky looks so vibrant, alive and inviting.” We love it, the experts love it, and we think you’re sure to love it too.
