Established in 1826 by a man believed originally to have been an illicit whisky-maker Royal Lochnagar is one of the smallest distilleries in the Scottish Highlands. It stands just beyond the boundaries of Balmoral Castle and was a favourite of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Shortly after visiting the distillery Royal Lochnagar starting supplying the queen with whisky and as such was awarded a Royal Warrant in 1848. A combination of nature's finest ingredients and the distiller's art result in the distinctive mellow taste of Royal Lochnagar which is matured for twelve years in oak barrels before being bottled. Stylistically Royal Lochnagar is light and delicate with rich malty elements balanced by spice and fruit. Sweet smooth and beautifully balanced in the mouth a warm spicy length lingers pleasingly on the finish.
