Please note that this rare rum comes without a box making it one for the drinkers rather than the collectors or gifters.

This bottle was released to celebrate 82 years of rum making in Saint Lucia. A distillery was built in the Mabouya Valley near Dennery in February 1931. It continued to produce rum until 1972 when Saint Lucia Distillers was formed and it was merged with the Roseau Distillery.

Created for connoisseurs the 1931 Third Edition was released in 2013 and continues to raise the bar for all Caribbean rum. This super-premium blend comes from one Coffey and three pot still distillates which were aged for between 6 and 12 years in a mix of Bourbon casks and Port pipes. The rum was then blended and left to marry in American oak for another three months.

Pull that large wooden stopper and dive into a rum that’s brimming with dried fruit raisins banana pineapple sticky toffee pudding marmalade woody tobacco eucalyptus walnut oil After Eight mints cherry liqueur chocolates vanilla charred oak pepper caramel and buttery roasted nuts. This is a little sweeter than previous releases which both had an intriguing sour tang making it much smoother for sipping. It was only lightly filtered before bottling to avoid stripping out any of that intense character but this means you might find a little harmless sediment in the bottom of the bottle.

Saint Lucia Distillers may be most famous for producing Chairman’s Reserve but those in the know lie in wait for the Barnard family’s super-premium 1931 Rum. Released annually in honour of the distillery set up by Denis Barnard these rums invariably sweep the gold medals in spirit competitions. The majority is sold in the US leaving very little for these shores if any at all. So for any serious rum enthusiast this is not to be missed.
