The respected wine critic James Suckling awarded the last vintage of this wine 99 points and placed it at number 27 in his Top 100 Wines of 2020 and number 6 in his Top 100 Wines of Australia 2020. So, there’s a real buzz about the follow-up. And here it is. Introducing Sami-Odi’s Hoffmann Dallwitz Syrah 2019.

This dense and muscular red was composed from the most impressive Burgundy casks filled from the two oldest sections of the Hoffmann family’s ‘Dallwitz’ vineyard – some of the vines used date back to 1888 and 1912. The label is a print called “Andy’s Porpoise”, and the back label features a sewn artwork called “Andy’s Bird”. Probably a good wine to take out into nature in that case. Only 5,216 bottles were filled though, and we only managed to secure a handful. So, be quick!

Accompanied by his infectious and friendly grin, New Zealander Fraser McKinley cut his teeth at the iconic Barossa estate, Torbreck. Now, he has his very own label, Sami-Odi. His organically farmed wines – created using only the tiniest amount of sulphur and no fining or filtration – are as appealing to the taste buds as they are to the eye. The highly respected Australian wine critic, James Halliday, says that “Fraser is the kind of person who would be capable of doing many things well, but we can all be thankful he was drawn to wine.” Touché to that. These are wines with heart and soul, slipping effortlessly into that ‘cult’ category.
