95 points “Now in its seventh vintage the Follow the Line red from Duncan Savage has almost certainly become one of the most highly respected old vine Cinsault reds in South Africa… This is a very polished ethereal classy effort with so many of the Cinsault characteristics drawing an undeniable resemblance to young premium Côtes de Beaune Pinot Noir. Approachable on release but cellar-worthy for at least 10+ years don’t miss this new release.” – Greg Sherwood MW

“Duncan Savage thinks he hasn’t hit his full potential yet. Heaven help his rivals when he does.” – Tim Atkin MW

Savage Wines are inspired by the great South African reds of yesteryear which makes us wonder whether this is Duncan’s premium take on Tassenberg A.K.A. Good Old Tassies. Follow the Line 2020 is a blend of Cinsault from 40-year-old bush vines and a splash of Syrah from the same property in Darling. Vinified so as to maintain the incredible perfume this Cinsault is an eruption of summery red berries cherry cola rose Turkish delight cherry blossom dried flowers and dried cranberries all seasoned to perfection with sea salt a twist of pepper and a pinch of chilli. This racy mouth-watering and immensely food-friendly red is sure to be snapped up by Savage Wines’ adoring fans. We’ll gladly follow this line to wherever it leads…

Having spent 11 years working at Cape Point Vineyards a five-star-rated winery according to Platter’s Wine Guide and having thoroughly mastered maritime and high-altitude winemaking Duncan Savage fulfilled his dream of creating his very own wines when he released his maiden 2011 Red and 2012 White. The quality of those wines rocketed this young talent into the spotlight and they’ve been a favourite at Harvey Nichols ever since. After moving into a new urban winery in Salt River Cape Town the strength of Savage Wines range has soared and these cult South African wines often sell out on release.
