95 points “True to the vintage this wine will give immense drinking pleasure from release and probably hit its prime at 8 to 10+ years of age.” – Greg Sherwood MW

The Savage Red 2018 is crafted using pure organic Stellenbosch Syrah. Matured in small French oak barrels for over a year followed by a further nine months in huge wooden vats it’s enthralling stuff that gives the Rhône Valley’s finest a run for their money. Dark intense and engaging kind of like a good drama it captures the attention with blackberry bush and damson flavours and then it locks you in for the long haul with twists and turns of savoury floral and peppery notes. We won’t spoil the ending though you’ll have to find that out for yourself if you’re lucky enough to bag one before they’re all snapped up by Savage Wines’ adoring fans.

Having spent 11 years working at Cape Point Vineyards a five-star-rated winery according to Platter’s Wine Guide and having thoroughly mastered maritime and high-altitude winemaking Duncan Savage fulfilled his dream of creating his very own wines when he released his maiden 2011 Red and 2012 White. The quality of those wines rocketed this young talent into the spotlight and they’ve been a favourite at Harvey Nichols ever since. After moving into a new urban winery in Salt River Cape Town the strength of Savage Wines range has soared and these cult South African wines often sell out on release.
