98 points, “It’s long, clean, defined and super tasty. I feel this wine is getting better and better by the vintage.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

98 points, “A wine with soul and length. Give it time.” – James Suckling

97 points, “The twenty-fifth vintage of a wine first made in 1995 by the Mondavi and Chadwick families is one of Francisco Baettig’s best editions yet.” – Decanter

96 points, “Relaxed in the mouth, the 2019 Seña begins with a juicy, well-integrated freshness that feels light as silk, accompanied by extremely finely grained yet young tannins that sculpt the flow, promising excellent ageing potential.” – Antonio Galloni’s Vinous

With scores like that, this really is an intriguing half bottle of red wine.

Seña – meaning ‘signal’ – is made by Eduardo Chadwick Claro, Decanter’s Man of the Year 2018 and the president of Errázuriz. Before its first vintage, 1995, Chile didn’t have a reputation for fine wine. Seña changed that, becoming the country’s first truly iconic red. It was originally a joint venture between Eduardo Chadwick and Robert Mondavi, who joined forces to create the ultimate Chilean wine. In 2005, Eduardo Chadwick became the sole owner of Seña. This incredible release celebrates 25 years of one of the New World’s most iconic wines.

The 2019 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Carmenère, Malbec and Petit Vedot sourced from predominantly biodynamic plots in Aconcagua Valley. Matured for 22 months in a combination of French oak and Stockinger foudres, this is a wine of real finesse that deserves a place in the hall of fame. 2019 had a warm spring with a cool summer, resulting in a really elegant rendition of Seña. They continue to swap the Merlot for Malbec, maintaining those elegant tannins, and dropped the Cabernet Franc in this vintage, giving it an even more Chilean feel. Expect blackberry, raspberry, blueberry, crème de cassis, cherry chocolate liqueurs, coffee, smoke, bonfire toffee, vanilla cream, pastry, walnut, cedar, spices and so much more. Probably the best vintage of Seña yet.

Seña originally shot to fame following a tasting in Berlin in 2004. This was a sort of Chilean tribute to the Judgement of Paris at which Seña and Viñedo Chadwick (Eduardo Chadwick’s other masterpiece) were tasted blind against the world’s best Cabernet blends, including Super Tuscans and First Growths from Bordeaux. The two Chileans of course came out on top, and their legendary status was cemented forever.
