Forty-Five Distinctly Dry Vermouth is crafted by our friends at The Spirit of Manchester Distillery. They use a blend of English wine and a complex recipe of sixteen botanicals ranging from chamomile to tonka bean, and from dandelion to cassia. Crikey it’s complex, and the balance of bitter fruit and bold spices is irresistible. But what we love about it most is how it is “distinctly dry”, but the flavour profile reminds us of lots of treats like hot cross buns, banana bread, poached pear, gingerbread and cinnamon-spiced apple crumble, just without the sweetness. Marvellous in a Martini and all manner of classic cocktails, but it can also be used to make a V&T (a vermouth and tonic). Garnished with a wedge of orange or grapefruit, it makes a spicy, refreshing and lower-alcohol alternative to a G&T.
Jen and Seb crafted their first 25,000 bottles of spirit in their dining room, and it won a Gold Medal at The Spirits Business Gin Masters in the micro-distillery category. Today, Spirit of Manchester is a state-of-the-art distillery capable of producing more than one million bottles a year and picking up nearly as many Gold Medals. With a long-term vision to be more transparent and sustainable, they’re looking at their bottling and packaging materials, and in some cases even adding QR codes so that consumers can track the carbon footprint of individual bottles. They’ve sent nothing to landfill since 2019, their energy is 100% renewable, and they make charitable donations to support their community. This is the kind of eco-friendly spirit the world needs.
