Introducing the ultimate boilermaker…

A boilermaker is a shot of whisky served alongside a beer. Although an American creation served to miners at the end of their shifts in the late 1800s this classic cocktail also exists in Scotland where it’s called ‘a half and a half’. There are two ways to drink it. The first is to drop the whisky into the beer. However we prefer to sip them separately when the ingredients are as good as this. That’s why we created this pack complete with one of Scotland’s finest whiskies a six-bottle mixture of our signature beers and the perfect glassware from Riedel to serve them in. This collection is ideal for birthdays the big match late-night sipping or just a gift to say “thank you” to your drinking buddy.

Springbank 10 Year Old is a classic that no collection should be without. Described by Ian Buxton in his book 101 Whiskies To Try Before You Die as “A ‘must have’ whisky if ever there was one.” It tastes like a coastal breeze that blows the cobwebs away with a flurry of brine granola smoked olive oil hazelnut praline coconut orange blossom honey baking spices smoky oak salted caramel and Werther’s Originals. Springbank is one of those glorious distilleries that sits quietly on the peripheries of the scene but occupies a special place in the heart of true whisky connoisseurs a bit like Clynelish and Rosebank. Once home to some thirty distilleries Campbeltown was a major player in the world of whisky. However most of them have long since gone out of business and now only around four remain. The most famous is Springbank who also produce the peated Longrow and the triple-distilled Hazelburn. Established in 1828 it’s one of the few Scottish distilleries that has remained in the hands of the founding family J. & A. Mitchell & Co. Ltd. In fact it’s the oldest independent family-owned distillery in Scotland. This family are also the force behind the Glengyle distillery where Kilkerran is made. So really without that first illicit still set up by Archibald Mitchell and the spirit kept alive by his ancestors there would probably be no whisky from Campbeltown and Scotch would be all the poorer for it.

The two beers are made in partnership with the legendary Derbyshire brewery Thornbridge. The first is a Pale Ale brewed at a weekday-friendly 3.8% using Crystal Mosaic Chinook and Citra hops. We love the complexity that hop combo provides. Crystal serves up woody spices and wildflower meadow notes Mosaic adds blueberry into the mix Chinook brings pine to the party and Citra empties a truckload of citrus fruit right onto the palate. The second beer is a Session IPA that has been expertly crafted to dispense that classic wallop of India Pale Ale flavour but at a more modest alcohol level and without the gluten. It’s a smashable classic brewed with an array of New World hops – Ella Citra Nelson Sauvin and Amarillo. Weighing in at a very quaffable 4.5% and delivering a punch of passionfruit pineapple papaya tangerine mango kiwi and grapefruit this IPA has a big personality. Maris Otter and Munich Crystal malts provide chewiness and honeyed richness all with less than 20ppm of gluten. Lip-smacking deliciousness in inimitable Harvey Nichols style.

Riedel is the world’s foremost glass specialist. Their Neat Glass has been specifically created for serving neat spirits in. We love the way it can be comfortably cradled in the hand and it’s our go-to glass for a nightcap or that special occasion Scotch. The tulip-shaped Ouverture Beer Glass is a an immaculately designed classic that reveals the colour develops the aroma maintains the head and temperature and lengthens the palate of your favourite craft ale. No lover of grain-based beverages should be without this duo.
