The uncut and unfiltered Straight Rye Whiskey earned a 97 point score and was named in the top 100 spirits by judges at the 2022 Ultimate Spirits Challenge.
Crafted using a combination of barrels aged for over 6 years and coming in at a phenomenal 65.45% ABV, this authentic American rye whiskey is bottled directly from the barrel, dark in colour and bursting with rich flavours and bold spices. Aromas of toffee, fig cake and candied fruit hit the nose opening out into fragrant notes of mint, cinnamon and clove. The lusciously silky texture coats the palate revealing subtle hints of allspice, coconut and nutmeg leading to a long and warm finish.
Produced at Buffalo Trace distillery, Sazerac Straight Rye Whiskey honours New Orleans bartender Thomas Handy. Handy ran the Sazerac Coffee House on Royal Street from 1869 where local patrons were served toddies made with cognac and Peychaud’s Bitters. However, it was Handy who changed the combination to rye whiskey instead of cognac and this libation became known as the 'Sazerac Cocktail'. The Sazerac became a New Orleans classic and America’s first branded cocktail was born.
