Described as a “Nordic whisky demon with Iberian blood flowing through its veins,” the exciting Stauning El Clásico is a matured rye whisky that has gone through an additional process of ageing in vermouth casks. It was initially crafted as an experiment to combine sweet vermouth and rye whisky, the classic pairing most often seen in the iconic Manhattan cocktail; the combination was so successful, that it has been added as a permanent fixture to the Stauning line up.
The deep amber hue of El Clásico delivers a warm and intense taste of newly harvested grains with a spicy, bittersweet aftertaste and a hint of bitter botanicals. Aromas of apples, oranges, ripe plums, cinnamon and roasted caramel hit the nose leading into dried fruits, citrus and crushed pepper on the tongue. Whether sipping neat or shaking up into a Manhattan, we think this “Nordic demon” is perfect for the more adventurous spirit drinker.
Stauning Whisky was brought to life by nine friends in a remote village on the West Coast of Denmark, with the shared passion, curiosity and willingness to experiment and create. Starting out in 2005 with just two small pot stills and an old butchery, this group of friends have gone on to the produce some of Denmark’s finest whisky and to become one of the world's most up and coming whisky brands.
