Tapanappa’s 1.5m Chardonnay comes from a lower-trained parcel of the Tiers Vineyard planted more recently at a higher density of 1.5m between the rows. This encourages earlier ripening and more competition among the vines and therefore higher quality fruit. The Tiers Vineyard texture and the warm vintage are evident in the rich peach fig quince and citrus fruit but there’s also zingy lemon meringue pie shortbread biscuits and creamy praline from the extended lees ageing in French Vosges oak barriques. We love this wine so much that we bought the entire UK allocation so it’s available exclusively here at Harvey Nichols.
An Officer of the Order of Australia and a Decanter Man of the Year Brian Croser is a luminary a living legend and a true visionary. Rising to fame as the chief winemaker at Hardy’s in the 1970s he would later establish Petaluma and Argyle in Oregon. But maybe one of his most important wineries is Tapanappa created in partnership with Bollinger and the Cazes family of Pauillac’s Lynch Bages.
