Described by Jancis Robinson’s team of experts as “very savoury and serious with lots of Bordelais styling” and as having “the power and fruit purity to improve over the next decade or more” this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot and Cabernet Franc is simply fabulous. Writing for Australia’s The Wine Front Gary Walsh awarded it 94 points and called it a “beautiful svelte Cabernet of grace and class.” The Awatea 2018 is clearly an intriguing opportunity.
An abundance of bright raspberry redcurrant cherry cassis and blackberry is layered over a foundation of espresso chocolate cedar paprika wooden pencils and dried herbs. It’s a glorious Bordeaux-style Kiwi that would be a fine choice for the Sunday roast or slow-cooked herby stews.
