Dreamt up by the Frescobaldi family and Robert Mondavi and always a high scorer with the wine critics the legendary Super-Tuscan Luce represents an immaculate blend of Montalcino’s savoury leathery and bloody Sangiovese with the soft fruitiness and density of Merlot. 2018 was a silky and elegant vintage so when Luce came out of its two-year slumber in oak it was thing of beauty. The fruit is precise and fresh; think blackberry blackcurrant ripple plum and Morello interlaced with tobacco leather and elegance. Not to be missed.

So there was great excitement when Vittorio Frescobaldi teamed up with California’s iconic producer Robert Mondavi to create Luce della Vite in 1995 now known as Tenuta Luce. The grapes came from vineyards in Montalcino next to the Frescobaldi’s CastelGiocondo estate and the wines have stunned the world ever since.
