92 points, “The 2020 Guidalberto is taut and tight with plenty of tart cherry and wild berry. The wine offers great freshness and tension with bay leaf, spice, wild cherry and pressed lavender buds. There is a hint of black olive too. The blend is equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate

92 points, “The 2020 Guidalberto is a gorgeous, classy wine. Less opulent than it can be, the 2020 impresses with its energy and drive. Sweet red cherry, plum, mint, rose petal, cedar and pipe tobacco all take shape in this super-attractive, mid-weight offering from Tenuta San Guido. There's a bit more Merlot in the 2020, but Guidalberto is increasingly made from lots that don't make it into Sassicaia, which explains the style of recent vintages. This is a terrific showing, especially considering the recent bottling. It's a fine relative value in Bolgheri's high-rent district.” – Antonio Galloni’s Vinous

92 points, “Nice freshness on the palate with plums and berries and citrusy acidity. It’s medium-bodied with fine tannins and a powdery texture. Hints of mushrooms. You can enjoy this young, but it will age nicely, too.” – James Suckling

Mario Incisa was inspired by his great-uncle Leopoldo Incisa della Rocchetta to create Sassicaia. Mario’s son Nicolò, the director of Tenuta San Guido for forty years, was similarly inspired by his great-great-great-grandfather Guidalberto della Gherardesca – a pioneer of modern agriculture who lived in Bolgheri – to create this wine. Guidalberto enjoyed its first outing in 2000 and has been snapped up by collectors ever since. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, this sensational wine is designed to showcase the international grape varieties that made this estate famous, but it can also be consumed at a younger age than Sassicaia. Silky, laden with black fruit, crème de cassis and spicy oak, this is an absolute stunner, especially in magnum format.

Tenuta San Guido are the team behind the legend that is Sassicaia, widely acknowledged to be the first Super Tuscan and a catalyst for an Italian winemaking revolution. A wine so controversial it was relegated to a table wine by the restrictive DOC regulations, only to prove so successful and highly revered that it was granted its own DOC Bolgheri Sassicaia – the only single estate to receive this privilege. The first Italian wine to receive 100 points from Robert Parker, a red that regularly beats Bordeaux’s First Growths in blind tasting competitions and according to Decanter Magazine: “One of the greatest wines in the world, famed and feted for its timeless elegance, balance and longevity.” Wines like Le Difese and Guidalberto provide a glimpse into the awesome world of Tenuta San Guido, but at a lower price point than their more famous sibling, Sassicaia.
