96 points, “The wine's immediate character is what distinguishes this vintage, and I wouldn't get too fussed by exaggerated cellar-aging ambitions. The wine awards sheer pleasure in its current form, with dazzling primary fruit and soaring intensity over the near and medium term.” - Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

97 points, “A very perfumed Sassicaia on the nose with forest floor, citrus and deep dark fruits. Blackcurrants. Cedar and black tea. Some balsamic. Pine needles. Full and very succulent. Really long, structured and complete. Tangy and energetic with a linear line of fresh tannins and acidity. Very Sassicaia throughout. Very attractive now in a youthful and vibrant way, but this will be better in three to four years.” - James Suckling

The Sassicaia 2020 is a vintage of concentration, elegance and longer oak ageing – the iconic red spent 25 months in oak, of which half were new. Expect sensational balance and purity. It opens with graceful notes of lavender, rosemary, blackberry, crème de cassis, black cherry, orange peel and graphite, before leading on to cedar, red plum, tobacco, star anise, mint, sage, black olive and spice with a long and beautifully balanced finish. As you’ll see from the critic scores, this is a cracking vintage that has earned a place in Sassicaia’s pantheon of greats, which is sure to mean that it will sell out fast.

What can you say about the legend that is Sassicaia? Widely acknowledged to be the first Super Tuscan and a catalyst for an Italian winemaking revolution. A wine so controversial it was relegated to a table wine by the restrictive DOC regulations, only to prove so successful and highly revered that it was granted its own DOC Bolgheri Sassicaia – the only single estate to receive this privilege. It’s the first Italian wine to receive 100 points from Robert Parker, a red that regularly beats Bordeaux’s First Growths in blind tasting competitions and one that prompted Jancis Robinson to ask herself “Does my working life get any better than this?” after sampling several vintages from magnum, before concluding “No it does not.” That’s why Decanter Magazine describes it as: “One of the greatest wines in the world, famed and feted for its timeless elegance, balance and longevity.”
