Tesseron tested Composition in all the classic Cognac cocktails before finalising the blend thus creating what we think may well be the ultimate mixing Cognac. This V.S.O.P. contains plenty of older elements and as the “Fine Champagne” on the label suggests at least 50% of the elements used have come from Grande Champagne and the remainder from Petite Champagne meaning it comes from the region’s finest terroir. And that’s why it is so wonderfully aromatic displaying cinnamon-spiced crumble jasmine apple blossom vanilla juicy plum prune bruised pear chocolate and strawberry sorbet notes. The family-run Tesseron Cognac House was established in 1905 by Abel Tesseron. He began by collecting all the oldest and finest eaux-de-vie he could lay his hands on before progressing onto distilling ageing and blending his own Cognacs. However for a long time most of the company’s luxury very old Cognacs were sold to other houses and were used to form the heart of their blends. For this reason Tesseron remained little known outside of the region for many years.
Fast forward to 2003 and the family decided to start bottling under their own name. They were quickly awarded a perfect 100 points by Robert Parker; the only Cognac to receive such an accolade. They focus on “X.O. and beyond” staunchly refusing to release young Cognac and thus making them the go-to choice for connoisseurs. Having been passed down through the family Tesseron is now run by Alfred Tesseron and his niece Melanie with a little help from his children Justine and Noé. The family also own the organic and biodynamic Bordeaux Fifth Growth Château Pontet-Canet just a stone’s throw from Château Mouton Rothschild.
