Although the name sounds rather terrifying we assure you that this whiskey is very much alive and has a rather sweet and friendly disposition.

The Dublin Liberties Murder Lane is named after an unmarked set of steps linking James Street with Bow Lane in Dublin located about a 20-minute walk from The Dublin Liberties Distillery (or a little longer if you stop off at the Guinness Storehouse on the way). According to medieval maps it was known as Murdering Lane suggesting it wasn’t much of a tourist spot more of a sticky end. This gory moniker was rebranded Cromwell’s Quarters in the late-1800s which didn’t go down very well despite it having nothing to do with Oliver Cromwell. Today it’s known as The 40 Steps despite having 39.

All that aside this Single Malt is really making a name for Murder Lane. Matured initially in ex-Bourbon barrels it was then transferred to Hungarian Tokaji wine casks. This creates a sweet treat with notes of coconut macaroons French macarons Terry’s Chocolate Orange marzipan butterscotch peaches and cream Victoria sponge honey apricot jam coffee grapes and apples. It’s as complex as Murder Lane’s history.

This exciting release is a super example of Irish whiskey and an inspired gift idea for spirits enthusiasts.
