Always highly anticipated the 2022 limited-edition bottling of The Kraken has been hauled up from a depth of 11 000 metres beyond human reach. Rumoured to be the last release in the Unknown Deep series collectors everywhere will be surfacing to wrap their tentacles around it…
Entitled “Copper Scar” this striking bottle is inspired by the wrecks of vessels that have fallen victim to the Kraken. Torn asunder by the beast these ships sink to the ocean floor and come to rest among the seabed’s fiery vents. There they are blackened by the volcanic fumes and become coppered by years in the sea water. Charred and scarred but still glimmering brightly in the darkness. It comes tucked inside a sturdy tin reminiscent of rivetted boat hulls and old-fashioned diving helmets.
Once again it has been created to raise awareness of maritime preservation and the damage being done to the ocean by humans. The Kraken will donate £1 from every bottle sold to the PADI AWARE Foundation an environmental non-profit that works with volunteer scuba divers to protect our seas. They’ve been at the forefront of ocean conservation for three decades protecting shark and ray species and fighting plastic pollution and marine debris through local action. Obviously they steer well clear of the Kraken while navigating its watery home.
Taking its name from the dreaded mythical sea monster this premium quality dark spiced rum quite literally puts a beast in your belly. Powerful rich smooth and dark as cephalopod ink its tentacles will soon envelope you. The Kraken brims with a delicious flavour medley suggestive of dried fruit cinnamon clove and vanilla. The bottle – based on an antique Victorian design – succeeds in making it just as visually appealing as it is to taste. A Caribbean blend with secret spices it’s great to drink either on its own combined with cola or as the base of punch style cocktails. The Kraken also recommend “The Perfect Storm” a combination of Kraken Rum ginger beer and a squeeze of fresh lime.
