The highly anticipated sixth and final release in Macallan’s annual series that analyses individual aspects of the whisky making process in minute detail. This time the inspiration comes from the nature-filled landscape that surrounds the distillery…

Partnering with Hardy the angling experts based in Alnwick Macallan has created a dazzling blue bottle reflecting a day fishing in the glistening water of the River Spey. Wild Atlantic salmon are at risk of becoming an endangered species so Macallan are working with the Atlantic Salmon Trust to raise awareness and support conservation hopefully ensuring that the salmon continue to jump in these pristine Scottish waters.

All the casks used for Edition No. 6 have been seasoned with Sherry and include both American and European oak barrels with the latter coming from respected Sherry producers such as Vasyma and Tevasa. The brass-coloured whisky is classic Macallan; a complex dram with warming and quite Christmassy notes of oak nutmeg ginger cinnamon thick-cut marmalade pomander plum pudding soaked raisins caramelised chocolate toffee Demerara sugar red apple poached pear and vanilla pod. Charge the hip flask for a day on the river or sip this remarkably fresh Scotch neat or on the rocks at home. And for those who would like to lengthen the experience we particularly like this edition with soda or ginger ale especially garnished with a slice of orange. As ever we expect this highly collectable release to be snapped up by Macallan fans so don’t miss out.

“Macallan is the daddy as far as legendary whiskies go ” so says whisky expert Ian Buxton. This Speyside behemoth enjoys huge global demand perfectly illustrated by a 30-year-old cask breaking auction records when it sold for $375 000 (US) in Hong Kong. Deservedly so it remains the aficionado’s choice when it comes to Scotch.
