The Speyside Spritz is the latest showstopping creation from our expert bartenders at the OXO Tower. This mellow and deeply refreshing cocktail was launched to commemorate World Whisky Day on the 15th May 2021 and will be available in our bars for four weeks. But don’t worry if you can’t make it to one because this gift pack contains almost everything you need to craft your own. Designed for warm evenings and watching the sun go down it makes a fabulous gift for the wannabe bartender whisky aficionado or cocktail cohort in your life or a readymade party for you and your friends. Just grab some ice a cucumber some glassware and we’ll begin…
To make this summery spritz charge a highball or a large stemmed wine glass with ice. Use the nifty Roll & Pour Jigger to measure in 45ml of The Singleton of Dufftown 12 Year Old Scotch and 15ml of Belsazar Rosé Vermouth. Then top with 150ml of Fever-Tree White Grape & Apricot Soda and garnish with a slice or ribbon of cucumber. And that’s how we spritz in a Speyside style.
This cocktail celebrates the awesomeness of The Singleton of Dufftown's smooth and mellow 12 Year Old Scotch. We kind of think of it as the whisky equivalent to runny honey. A fabulously approachable dram for those new to whisky and a great Single Malt for making cocktails (particularly a Spritz Highball or Old Fashioned) it oozes Speyside character with its hazelnut praline baked apple pear drop Medjool date soft brown sugar espresso walnut orange zest vanilla and chewy nut brittle flavours. With no rough edges at all this 12 Year Old is – as the label says – a “luscious nectar”.
The Singleton brand is actually a trio of single malts; Dufftown and Glendullan from Speyside and the grassy and fruity Glen Ord from the Black Isle to the west the latter being famed for its golden barley and pure water. Diageo launched this super-smooth brand in 2006 in a bid to rival the likes of Glenlivet and Glenfiddich and eventually become the world’s number one selling malt. This particular Scotch is a Singleton of Dufftown. As well as being a town Dufftown gives its name to the surrounding area of Speyside home to the likes of Balvenie Glenfiddich Mortlach Glendullan Kininvie and Pittyvaich. This is one of the highest concentrations of whisky distilleries anywhere in the world. The Dufftown distillery that bears the town’s name was originally a mill that was converted in the 1890s. In recent decades it has become one of Diageo’s powerhouse producers and is a vital component in Bell’s blended Scotch. Now Dufftown has been given its chance to shine as the driving force behind Singleton. Water is drawn from Jock’s Well in the Conval Hills and the distillery’s distinctive pear-shaped stills create rich whisky that’s unbelievably smooth nutty and heavy on the malt.
