According to ancient legend the birth of the Corvina variety (the dominant grape in Valpolicella and Amarone) can be traced back to the magnificent La Grola hill from whence this wine came. Here the maestros at Allegrini have mixed that Corvina with a splash of Oseleta to create an intense and dark red that pulses with wild berries peppery juniper rolling tobacco and mocha. La Grola is a succulent under-the-radar classic for serving alongside red meats wild mushroom stews or anything with those crusty burnt cheese edges.
Passed down from generation to generation this family-run winery is now in the capable hands of Franco Allegrini. With over 100 hectares of old vines in prime locations slap bang in the heartland of the region Allegrini’s wines have always been much-loved but over recent years they’re undergoing a remarkable renaissance.
