First the rapper and entrepreneur Shawn Jay-Z Carter increased his ownership after buying out Sovereign Brands. Then in February 2021 he sold a 50% stake in the company to Moët Hennessy the drinks arm of the luxury goods empire that is LVMH. As the golden bottle suggests this is a Champagne with the Midas touch. And to maintain the shine it now comes in a chic velvet bag.
Gold Brut was the first release from Armand de Brignac and remains the golden child. Comprising 40% Pinot Noir 40% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Meunier from a trio of vintages. Peach apricot and red berry aromas are followed by crystalised citrus vanilla orange blossom tropical fruit brioche chalk and buttered toast drizzled with acacia honey. The mouthfeel is soft and creamy with a hint of toastiness from the unique dosage which is aged for one year in French oak.
The Cattier family’s Champagne house was founded in 1763 before the French Revolution. Now in the hands of Jean-Jacques and his son Alexandre the 12th and 13th generation wine growers Armand de Brignac combines over 250 years of experience with a no-expense-spared approach but their vineyards are also certified HVE Level 3 – the highest grading for sustainability awarded by the French government.
