Every month Batch Brew release an experimental spirit in their Batch Innovations range. Limited to only a few hundred bottles of each new batch the six-strong team in Burnley Lancashire push the boundaries of craft distillation. Although usually only available to those on subscription plan Batch Brew has allowed us to cherry-pick a few of our favourites from their latest creations.
A golden rum that tastes like liquid Christmas. This Limited Edition PX Sherry Cask Rum has been further finished for 14 months in a retired Pedro Ximénez barrel that the lovely people at Batch Brew picked up while on holiday in Córdoba. The result is brimming with flavours of Christmas cake mince pie figgy pudding Medjool dates cherry chocolate liqueurs chocolate-covered toffees and freshly hewn oak about to be loaded onto a roaring fire. Despite all those sweet flavours the rum is deliciously and somewhat surprisingly dry making it wonderful to sip neat mix with cola or drizzle over ice cream that has been liberally scattered with raisins. Although super festive we’ll be sipping this all year round.
Batch Brew use ethically sourced superior ingredients to handcraft premium spirits. They started in the basement of a terraced house in Burnley Lancashire but now have moved to a renovated mill. Impressing the judges at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2018 they picked up a Double Gold that has rocketed them on to the radar of discerning drinkers around the world.
