Bouvet-Ladubay has been made using only the best grapes in France's Loire Valley. The Chardonnay grapes are blended with Chenin Blanc, and lend this sparkling wine its fresh and fruity aroma.
Bursting with flavour, it boasts a pleasing mix of soft floral notes and juicy peach and apricot, which will pair wonderfully with light summer dishes and freshly cooked seafood, like mussels with a splash of rich cream and a smattering of lightly charred samphire.
La Maison Bouvet Ladubay dates all the way back to 1851. Founded by Etienne Bouvet at the tender age of 23, the fledgling winery in Saint-Hilaire-Saint-Florent, France became the focal point of Bouvet's life. He worked tirelessly with his wife, Celestine Ladubay - whose maiden surname forms the latter part of the Maison's moniker - to become one of the region's most esteemed winemakers. The couple poured their lives into the winery and when they both passed away, they left no direct descendants. In 1932, Bouvet Ladubay was purchased by Justin-Marcel Monmousseau at auction, who set about restoring the winery to its former glory with as much zeal as the founders had. Today, it’s the second-oldest producer of sparkling wine in Saumur, utilising the famous 'méthode traditionnelle' - to make dazzling wines in exactly the same fashion as Champagne.
