Single barrel Foursquare rum bottled at cask strength is a super-rare glorious and highly sought-after thing. This one has been bottled exclusively for Harvey Nichols so you’ll find it nowhere else on the planet…

The S.B.S Barbados 2006 comes from a single ex-Bourbon cask of rum distilled at Foursquare and was bottled at a punchy 64.7%. The legendary rum maker Richard Seale never releases official single casks from Foursquare but sometimes he does sell them to respected blenders and bottlers in Denmark and Holland such as 1423. When the team at 1423 tasted this one they knew it was something special and couldn’t bring themselves to blend it. So this bottle represents a unique opportunity to taste a single barrel cask strength Foursquare.

Distilled in Barbados in 2006 (a blend of pot and column still rums) and finally bottled in Denmark in 2021 this ex-Bourbon barrel yielded just 220 bottles of this incredible 15-year-old rum. Complex powerful and downright stunning it coats the mouth with tropical flavour. At full strength it’s explosive and oily displaying roasted pineapple guava and banana notes accompanied by wood varnish fire roasted nuts woodsmoke honey and dried vanilla pods. Add a few drops of water and delicate lime lemon and floral notes appear while the mouthfeel flips from oily to creamy almost reminiscent of a Walnut Whip. The high strength provides the owner with the chance to add as much or as little water as they prefer depending on their mood the weather or the desired flavour profile. A prospect like this doesn’t come along very often.

1423 was formed when a group of friends went to a whisky fair in Denmark but unexpectedly ended up falling in love with a rum. So infatuated with this spirit they bought and bottled their own cask of it and the rest as they say is history. Their passion has opened doors to some of the rarest rums on Earth and their Single Barrel Selection (S.B.S) series offers a glimpse into a truly unique universe of unblended rum that is so rarely seen.

For those unfamiliar with Foursquare shame on you. We’re only kidding of course but this is one of the hottest rum creators on the planet. They have been described as “the world’s best rum distillery” by The Telegraph newspaper and have been crowned five-time consecutive winners of the International Spirits Challenge’s “Rum Producer of the Year”. This family-run distillery is responsible for giving the world Doorly’s R.L. Seale’s Veritas Rum Sixty Six Velvet Falernum their Exceptional Cask Selection series and countless collaborations with the likes of Luca Gargano’s Velier. Whisky lovers might draw comparison with Bruichladdich for their cult following rich provenance and exceptional cask management skills. But in reality Foursquare is an entirely one-off proposition that should not be missed.
