90 points, “Great intensity and expression. Toasted almond, orange peel and honeysuckle aromas lead to ripe stone fruits, yellow apple and pear, with a fresh, balanced finish and smooth, refined mousse.” - International Wine and Spirits Competition

With each fresh release from Busi Jacobsohn we fall a little deeper in love with them. The sophisticated sparkling wine styles released by this exciting talent are already receiving huge critical acclaim and the 2019 Brut is no different. Taking a silver medal from the WineGB Awards 2023 alongside glowing reviews from other critics, we know you will want to get your hands on this English gem.

Busi Jacobsohn Cuvée Brut 2019 was crafted using 60% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Meunier grown on the single-estate vineyard in Eridge East Sussex and spends 20 months ageing on the lees. The golden sparkling wine is crisp and rounded with a creamy mousse, fine bead and excellent clarity. The rich combination of apple pie, almond, croissants, poached pears, apricot, freshly baked pastries and light toasted hazelnuts alongside a fresh citrus acidity and an undertone of flinty minerality make this a delight for all the senses. It is a sensational fizz to wow guests with whether for a large celebration, small dinner party or even as a simple aperitif. It pairs beautifully with smoked salmon, seafood, pate, buttered asparagus, creamy pasta, truffles and has enough backbone to hold up against Asian food. The producers have ensured this wine is suitable for vegans which goes a long way to showing how progressive an operation this is.

Transcending the burgeoning English sparkling wine category, Busi Jacobsohn is the epitome of European elegance. The brand was created by an Italian and Swedish couple – Susanna Busi and Douglas Jacobsohn – at Blackdon Farm on the beautiful High Weald just south of Tunbridge Wells. Here they use the traditional method made world-famous by Champagne and vines from Burgundy clones to create wines that are a celebration of Europe. Their very first wine was awarded 94 points by the Decanter World Wine Awards putting this new venture firmly on the fine wine map but also on a trajectory to become a world-beater.

Founded in 2015, Busi Jacobsohn is very much a family-run wine estate. Douglas Jacobsohn stepped down as chief executive of an insurance company working in London to follow a dream that he and his wife Susanna had of making their own wine. After extensive training at Plumpton College, Douglas spends his days among the vines while Susanna takes care of the organisational side. Their sons, Charles and Tom, help with design, marketing and the vineyards; and their friends and family all pitch in at harvest time following the classic Italian tradition of Vendemmia. We’re proud to be one of the first stockists of Busi Jacobsohn and cannot recommend it highly enough.
