Chakana, meaning 'Southern Cross' in the Mapuche language of the Andes, was founded over a decade ago by Argentinean banker Juan Pelizzote – who now owns 150 hectares of vines in the Mendoza region. The estate practices sustainable viticulture, drip irrigates, and enjoys sunny days and very cool nights throughout the year.
This premium Malbec uses only estate-grown grapes and is aged in a combination of oak and concrete for 12 months before being bottled. Dense ruby in colour, the nose is sweet and perfumed with notes of charcoal, white chocolate, blueberries, blackberries and wildflowers. Full-bodied and supple, this wine displays great intensity and concentration along with an elegant balance and harmonious structure. Offering great varietal character and outstanding value for money, this wine will improve with up to 10 years cellaring and would pair well with a variety of red meat dishes, roasted vegetables and comfort food.
