Although famous names like Whispering Angel and Château Miraval steal the limelight, those who are truly in the know are quietly stocking up on Château La Mascaronne…

Hailing from a continuous sixty-hectare vineyard in Le Luc en Provence surrounded by oak and olive trees, this is an under-the-radar rosé with immense pedigree. The experts at Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate advise that “this organic producer clearly merits more attention”, and when you start to dig, it really is an intriguing story. The estate’s previous owner was Tom Bove, the man who built up Château Miraval before selling it to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Establishing it as one of the finest producers of rosé in Côtes de Provence, he then sold it to Michel Reybier, the owner of Saint-Estèphe’s legendary Château Cos d’Estournel and the luxury hotel brand, La Réserve. This is a move that is sure to pique the curiosity of fine wine aficionados everywhere.

Château La Mascaronne Organic Rosé 2022 is the third vintage with Michel Reybier at the helm, continuing with that dashing new look bottle and the dropping of the slightly clunky Quat'Saisons name. This latest release is dazzlingly luminous, beautifully intense and particularly arresting. An energetic blend of 40% Cinsault, 35% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 10% Rolle (Vermentino), it buzzes with intense white peach, lemon, pink grapefruit, redcurrant, pineapple, cranberry, wild strawberry, creamy white chocolate and sophisticated Riviera vibes. Rather unusually for Provence rosé, it also ages exceptionally well. But in reality, we won’t be able to fight the temptation to drink it all this summer.
