99 points “The J-P Moueix tasting was of a very high standard this year but this was the exceptional wine for me. It's very deeply coloured showing rich sumptuous aromas of coffee bean plum and blackberry. The palate is beautifully structured even at this young age with lovely balance between tannins oak acidity and fruit. An exceptional Pomerol.” – Tim Atkin MW
98+ points “An absolutely prodigious wine the dense purple 2009 Trotanoy exudes extraordinary notes of minerals forest floor sweet blackcurrants and black cherry jam along with floral notes and graphite. Very full-bodied with silky tannins fabulous opulence and palate presence this terrific wine should be at its best in 7-10 years and last for 20 or more. Think of it as a more concentrated ‘bigger’ version of the extraordinary 1998.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
In the 2009 vintage Château Trotanoy produced a second wine and took the quality of the Grand Vin to a new level.
One of Pomerol’s true greats; bursting with vitality and richness. Trotanoy’s name comes from its clay-rich and concrete-like soils that are “too wearisome” to cultivate. But the Moueix family ploughed on and that solid and humid soil really concentrates the fruit. Part of the vineyard also lies on the ‘buttonhole’ a unique region of soil dominated by Pétrus and shared with other illustrious company – La Conseillante l‘Évangile Lafleur and Clinet to name but a few. All of this makes Trotanoy a prized Bordeaux for those lucky enough to get their hands on it.
Luscious blackberry and blackcurrant mixed with cracked pepper hoi sin sauce black cherry plum pudding bracken fig rolls cedar oriental spices Provencal herbs mocha and beef carpaccio. Although it’s drinking fabulously there’s no hurry to pull this cork as it’s just going to keep improving. So maybe consider this as a gift for an anniversary in a decade (or even two) – although we won’t judge you if you can’t resist it for that long.
