Due to high demand and the very limited number of bottles, this whisky will be limited to one per customer while stocks last.

Curated in partnership with the V&A Dundee, the Dalmore Luminary Series is not only a work of art, but also a coming together of whisky and design.

A luminary is a person who inspires or influences others. Dalmore Luminary No.1 2022 Edition 15 Year Old has been created by the apprentices of two immense luminaries – one of the world’s greatest architectural designers and one of finest whisky makers of his generation. In many ways, this bottle represents the future stars of both industries…

The story begins in Dundee – the UK’s only UNESCO City of Design. Here, on the banks of the silvery Tay, you’ll discover Scotland’s striking design museum – the V&A Dundee. The building was designed by the internationally acclaimed Japanese architect, Kengo Kuma, who was named ‘the most influential architect of the year’ by Time Magazine in 2021 and was also responsible for the Olympic stadium in Tokyo. The Italian-born architect Maurizio Mucciola is considered Kuma’s protégé – he led the project to realise his mentor’s vision for the V&A Dundee. And he was responsible for the design of this exquisite bottle.

Richard Paterson OBE is a whisky maker so skilled that he once insured his nostrils for £1.6 million with Lloyd’s of London. Renowned and admired around the world for his innovation and flair, he is the Master Distiller at Dalmore. Gregg Glass has worked alongside Richard Paterson for six years and credits him with imparting the ambition to become a whisky maker.

Mucciola and Glass created just 15,000 bottles of Dalmore Luminary No.1 2022 Edition 15 Year Old. It was matured in American white oak before being finished in specially selected Italian Amarone red wine casks and bespoke ‘Kintsugi’ casks. The latter were crafted using a unique mix of Scottish Tay, Japanese Mizunara and American white oak. Mucciola’s design brings geometric shapes and earth tones that somewhat mimic the V&A Dundee, while Glass’s love of wood delivers flavours of chocolate Florentine, panna cotta, ginger cake, dried fruit, brioche, fig, cherry liqueur, incense, honey, cacao and wood spices. This whisky is a powerful statement of intent to learn from the best and strive to emulate or even surpass them. Having tasted this stunning and highly collectible Scotch, we have a feeling that it won’t be long before the pupils become the teachers.

As regal, resplendent and undeniably Scottish as the silver stag emblazoned across their bottles is, Dalmore is nothing short of legendary. Early owners of this distillery in Alness, just north of Inverness, came from Clan Mackenzie. Each bottle of Dalmore bears a twelve-point stag in honour of the Mackenzie’s Chief Colin of Kintail, who famously saved King Alexander III of Scotland from a charging buck and was rewarded the right to use this royal emblem. Fortune favours the brave apparently and if you’re looking for Dutch courage, this is a delicious way to obtain it. Especially considering the whiskies are made by the talented Gregg Glass under the watchful eye of the iconic Master Distiller Richard Paterson, a man so skilled he once insured his nostrils for £1.6 million with Lloyd’s of London. The wonderfully mahogany Scotch these two and their team produce at Dalmore is rich and full-bodied, making it the ultimate postprandial dram and a perfect partner to a cigar.
