We’re huge fans of everything that Domaine René Bouvier produces. But even still, this Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is astonishing. Hailing from one of the most famous vineyards in the Côte de Nuits, this deeply aromatic Pinot Noir displays red fruit, oak spices, chocolate and freshly roasted coffee. There are also menthol and clove notes, which combine to create a freshness and vaguely medicinal character that almost tastes as if it’s doing you good with each sip. It will be intriguing to see where this goes over the coming decades.
Domaine René Bouvier has owned vineyards in the Côte de Nuits for four generations moving from Marsannay towards Gevrey-Chambertin. Now run by Bernard Bouvier, the grapes are harvested by hand from extremely low-yielding vines that are farmed organically. His wines, which are aged in small oak barrels, tend to have an innate power to them and a real sense of depth.
