DOMAINE RENÉ BOUVIER Fixin Crais de Chêne 2017
90 points “Floral with very appealing fruit intensity.” – Tim Atkin MW Decanter
Fixin can be found next to Gevrey-Chambertin and offers great value to alternative explorers. 2017 was thankfully quite a large harvest after the traumas of 2016 resulting in lots of happy winemakers in this vintage. René Bouvier’s Fixin Crais de Chêne 2017 is fresh flowery and gorgeously summery. Serve this charmingly rustic red with baba ganoush salmon curries or fresh tomato pasta or decant it and leave it for an hour and serve with dishes laced with soy sauce.
Domaine René Bouvier has owned vineyards in the Côte de Nuits for four generations moving from Marsannay towards Gevrey-Chambertin. Now run by Bernard Bouvier the grapes are hand-harvested from extremely low-yielding organically farmed vines. His wines which are aged in small oak barrels tend to have an innate power to them and a real sense of depth.
