You’ve been sipping Provence rosé in the Saint-Tropez sunshine all day then the evening draws in and a hearty meal beckons. That’s when you pull out Château Romassan Bandol Rouge from the cellar.

This exhilarating Mediterranean red from the Bandol AOC is a blend of Mourvèdre and Grenache. Domaines Ott masterfully tame the power of the former and marry it with the silky finesse of the latter before maturing the final wine in oak for 18 months or more. The nose pulses with cherry crème de cassis menthol and spices while the palate delivers a harmonious raft of blackberries chocolate liquorice allspice thyme and pepper. Consider pairing with slow-cooked beef cassoulet roasted vegetables spicy dishes barbeques wild mushrooms or strong cheeses.

Domaines Ott has been the wine of the Riviera for decades and in 2004 came under the stewardship of the Rouzauds – one of the wine world’s most powerful families and owners of Champagne Louis Roederer Champagne Deutz Ramos Pinto Port Maison Delas in the Rhône and Bordeaux’s iconic Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. Domaines Ott was founded in 1912 in the aftermath of phylloxera by an agricultural engineer from Alsace called Marchel Ott. It comprises three estates: Chateau de Selle (Marcel Ott’s first estate in Taradeau) Clos Mireille (an old property on the coast overlooking La Londe-les-Maures that creates a legendary rosé that has become a big Harvey Nichols favourite) and Château Romassan (terraced vineyards in Bandol acquired in 1956 and then completely renovated). This stellar winery delivers sophisticated holiday vibes whenever you pull the cork.
