Cold Sweat is a series of three Syrahs from the 2015 vintage exploring the unique terroir of cool-climate Eden Valley. Together they’ve been described as a “fascinating trilogy of single-vineyard wines” by the expert critics at JancisRobinson.com.
The winemakers Matt and John sourced the grapes for this one from their mate Joel in Wilton. We really don’t think we can describe it more succinctly than Mike Bennie already has above. Suffice to say we think this might be our favourite of the bunch. Cold Sweat Wilton is the lightest freshest and most vibrant and summery of the triumvirate so try this one first if you’re doing a tasting flight of the three.
Set up by Essex boy Matt Gant and South Australian John Retsas (the latter taking sole ownership of the company in June 2021) First Drop is part winery and part frivolous merrymaking in a ginormous warehouse abandoned by Penfolds. The brand crafts grapes grown by their friends into fun-loving and easy-going wines with remarkable distinction and texture. They also do this without using animal products in the fining process making the entire range vegan friendly.
